Finding Research Articles

Seems to be a fast way to find research articles by title or author.

08/31/2007 Update:

If you know the title of the article Google Scholar is a good place to start. You may be able to access the article directly from there. Next I would try one of the scholarly databases (library web site). If you know the journal, you might try searching for the journal name in your school’s library catalog. They may have the journal in electronic form. If not see if it’s available in print or microfilm. If not then you may need to go through interlibrary loan (costs money).

If you’re looking for articles about a certain subject, start with the scholarly databases on the library website. When you find an article you want, it may link directly from the database or you go through the process described above.

If you’re doing a lot of research, you may want to look at using some kind of bibliographic software like EndNote. You can usually download the references directly from the databases and it will make inserting references directly into Word easy.

If you go to scholar.google.com you can input the term “gvhd in hematopoietic sct” and hit search. It looks like articles regarding graft versus host disease and stem cell transplantation come up. (2900 of them) Searching on “gvhd in hematopoietic sct adult” reduces the number of articles to 1300. (Specific search terms are in quotes in this reply. Quotes were not included in the original Google Scholar searches.) You should confer with your healthcare provider for help in understanding the articles you find relevant and when making personal health decisions.
